    Chris Sampson pitched three-hit ball over seven innings, Darin Erstad and Miguel Tejada each drove in two runs and the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-0 on Saturday night. Sampson (2-3) struck out three and walked one in his Dodger Stadium debut, matching his longest outing of the season.

    Willie Harris and Rob Mackowiak homered to help the Washington Nationals beat Houston 8-3 Thursday night and end the Astros’ five-game winning streak. John Lannan (3-3) allowed seven hits in six innings and the Nationals snapped Houston’s eight-game winning streak at Minute Maid Park. The Astros averaged 7.3 runs and 11.5 hits in their previous eight home games.

    Kaz Matsui has dramatically increased Houston’s team speed. On Wednesday night, he showed the Astros just how valuable his quickness can be. Matsui stole second and raced to third on a wild pitch before scoring the winning run on a single by Carlos Lee in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Astros to a 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals.

    Carlos Lee drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Houston Astros to a 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night. Lee’s single, that flew just over the head of Lastings Milledge, scored Kaz Matsui and gave Houston its fifth straight victory. Matsui walked and stole second in the ninth before Joel Hanrahan (0-2) intentionally walked Lance Berkman.

    Norton’s pinch-hit single lifts Braves past Padres (AP)

    Pinch-hitter Greg Norton broke a seventh-inning tie with a bases-loaded single and the Atlanta Braves beat the San Diego Padres 5-2 on Wednesday night for their fifth straight win. With the game tied 2-2, Padres starter Randy Wolf was lifted after loading the bases in the seventh on Brian McCann’s double, Matt Diaz’s single and Mark Kotsay’s walk.

    Carlos Lee had the go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning and Lance Berkman had a career-high five hits to lead the Houston Astros to a 6-5 win over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night. Miguel Tejada and Berkman both singled in the eighth before Lee’s hit to right field. Austin Kearns dived for the ball, but it bounced just in front of him.
