Third baseman Ty Wigginton and the Houston Astros avoided arbitration, agreeing Friday on a $4.35 million, one-year contract. Wigginton, who made $2,775,000 last season, joined the Astros last July in a trade with Tampa Bay for reliever Dan Wheeler. The 30-year-old Wigginton hit a combined .278 with 22 home runs and 67 RBIs with Houston and Tampa Bay in 2007.
