Clemens: `I’m failing at retirement’ (AP)
Roger Clemens talked about his plight and laughed. “I’m failing at retirement,” he said. “Let’s just face it. I’m failing miserably at it.” The 44-year-old right-hander, unsure whether to retire or return for a 24th major league season, was the keynote speaker for the St. John’s winter baseball banquet on Wednesday night.

Former Cardinals GM Bing Devine dies at age 90 (AP)
Bing Devine, the St. Louis general manager who helped build Cardinals teams that won three National League pennants and two World Series in the 1960s, died Saturday. He was 90. Nolan Ryan expected to leave hospital, son says (AP)
Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was expected to leave the hospital Saturday after medical tests for an undisclosed ailment came back normal, his son said. The 59-year-old strikeout king was admitted to Round Rock Medical Center on Friday for treatment of recurring symptoms of a pre-existing medical condition.

Nolan Ryan hospitalized, team says he’s in good condition (AP)
Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was hospitalized Friday and said to be in good condition with an undisclosed ailment. The 59-year-old strikeout king checked into Round Rock Medical Center for treatment of “recurring symptoms of a pre-existing medical condition,” according to the Round Rock Express, a minor league team Ryan owns.

Ensberg, Everett, Lane agree to 1-year contracts (AP)
Third baseman Morgan Ensberg, shortstop Adam Everett and outfielder Jason Lane agreed Thursday to one-year contract with the Houston Astros. All three players had filed for salary arbitration. Ensberg hit .235 with 23 home runs and 58 RBIs in 127 games last year. The 31-year-old agreed to a deal for $4.35 million.
